DMV · Togolese Diaspora Collective
228 is the country code you dial to reach Togo. We're the young adults in the DMV who grew up as its first generation here — building community, culture, and connection under that same line.

Who we are
Project 228 is a collective of DMV-based young adults, first-generation American children of Togolese immigrants, keeping our roots close while building something new.
01
Francophone language, Togolese tradition, and diaspora identity, carried forward through people who grew up with a foot in both worlds.
02
Cookouts, soccer matches, game nights — real gatherings across the DMV that turn a shared background into a real network.
03
A space where experience gets passed down and picked up — between generations, and between each other.
On the calendar
Every event is a reason for the community to show up for each other, in person, across the DMV.
A community cookout bringing the DMV Togolese diaspora together for food, music, and connection.
A casual night of games and community, low-key and high energy.
A formal evening celebrating the community, its growth, and the people building it.
A friendly match on the pitch between the Togolese and Sierra Leonean communities.
Marking Togolese independence with the community that carries it forward here.
The roster
Project 228 is run entirely by young adults volunteering their time. Two seats are still open.
